This course is for Retired Law Enforcement Officers and Retired Military Police personnel ONLY. All participants are REQUIRED to bring their retired LEO ID card, pistol license, and weapon(s) of choice with magazines, holster, and 50 rounds of ammunition per weapons.
This course is taught at either the South Shore Shooting Range or Mitchel Field. This course will review:
HR 218 requirements in the LEOSA (Law Enforcement Officers Safety Act)
Rules and regulations on carrying your weapon outside of New York State
Weapon Safety
Practical Exam: Must be able to shoot down range with at least 70% accuracy
Upon completion, a photo ID card will be issued to the participant. The HR 218 ID card and LEO ID card must be carried when they are carrying a weapon.
8 Hour Firearms Annual
Participants must pass a 50-round shooting course with at least 70% (35 rounds) in the designated target area. Upon completion and passing of this course, participants will be issued a Certificate of Completion. This certificate must be submitted to the NYS Department of State for registration renewal. Cost of the course covers qualification with two weapons. Ammunition, firearms, and holsters are not included in the course cost. Participants must separately purchase 50 rounds of ammo (1 box) and bring their own handgun and holster.
You must bring your current NYS Armed Security Guard Registration Card and NYS pistol permit to the class; Those who fail to bring their NYS armed guard registration and NYS pistol permit will not be permitted to attend.
